Mission

MCCSS Community-Based Instruction Program commits to promoting student achievement by ensuring essential instruction, support, and resources for students with disabilities in natural, non-school environments.  These deliberate actions foster students to become as independent as possible, focusing on functional and life skills while expanding the possibility of post-secondary opportunity outcomes.

Morgan County Charter School System’s Community-Based Instruction program supports the development of instruction in the following areas: Education, Living Independently, Transition and Employment through Community-Based Instruction (CBI) and Community-Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI).   Incorporating academic standards and maximizing on students’ strengths, interests, and preferences, the purpose of CBI/CBVI services is to provide a goal driven, results oriented program focused on improving student achievement in the following four CBI/CBVI areas: domestic, vocational, recreation, and community. 

The goal is to provide real life experiences to assist students with disabilities in acquiring essential independent living skills necessary to succeed in post-secondary opportunities and transition into the adult world. CBI/CBVI is an evidence-based strategy appropriate to students with disabilities to facilitate independence in age-appropriate environments.  Direct instruction is provided by qualified personnel developing application of knowledge in community settings across all four domains. Skills are introduced in the classroom and applied in natural environments to provide organic opportunities for practice and generalization.
