This link provides access to the Georgia Performance Standards, the new state curriculum standards being introduced and implemented through 2009. The teaching of these standards is required and what is tested on the state’s standardized assessments (e.g., Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests, Georgia High School Graduation Tests)

Morgan County Elementary School has been involved in an initiative which trains teachers to consider student engagement in the design of instructional units and lessons. As teachers at MCES become expert in designing lessons for maximum student engagement, they will begin to train other teachers in the system. MCES and Morgan County High School will begin a peer training and coaching initiative this year to introduce high school teachers to the principles of student engagement. SREB maintains regional databases for K-12 and higher education and publishes numerous reports annually. Key publications include the SREB Fact Book on Higher Education (biennial); the Challenge to Lead education goals series, Goals for Education: Challenge to Lead; and reports on High Schools That Work, middle grades education, technology for colleges and schools, educational accountability, children's readiness for school, and high school graduates’ readiness for college.

This link provides access to a large research base which is significant in the state of Georgia. Senior scholar, Dr. Robert Marzano, has provided much of the research driving the Georgia Department of Education’s and Morgan County School’s efforts at reform and improvement. Morgan County School’s strategic plan and teacher evaluation instrument are rooted in Dr., Marzano’s research. Morgan County Middle School’s examination of effective instructional strategies is based on the research of Dr. Marzano.
